Question #34: What is a “spiritual gift?”
Answer: A spiritual gift is valuable to the church of Jesus Christ in general. Ryrie offers a brief but concise definition. It is “a God-given ability for service.” As we contemplate on the ultimate unifying purpose of God, that is, His glory and honor, we find that spiritual gifts are given by the Spirit to the Church of Jesus Christ in the glorification of the Father. This involves a lot of things, to name a few; the edification of the believers, the equipping of the saints for the work of the ministry, the propagation of the gospel of Christ, the teaching of the orthodox doctrines of God and the Bible, etc.
