Question #45: Why did not Isaiah use Bethulah (the technical word for virginity)?

"Bethulah" used as "virgin" but with husband.
“Bethulah” used as “virgin” but with husband.

Answer: Though bethulah is the strict Hebrew word for a virgin girl, Joel 1:8 indicates that bethulah can have a husband, therefore it is ambiguous that bethulah should be proper for Isaiah’s concept of the virgin birth. Almah, on the other hand, is never used of a married woman, therefore Isaiah used the word almah when virginity was meant.
